River Arts Club · Maidenhead, on the Thames

A calm creativespace on the banksof the Thames.

An intimate riverside house at Maidenhead, on a quiet stretch of the Thames: rooms, the river, art, books, gatherings and the people you meet here.

On the river now: 13° and some cloud, sunset at 19:15.

Step inside

A house on the water, with a life of its own.

Whitewashed walls, natural textures and carefully curated art. The library, the garden studio, the riverside lounge, and the Thames a few steps from the door.

Life at River Arts

There is no prescribedway to be here.

Take part in as much or as little as feels right.

  • Movement in the studio.
  • Breakfast by the river.
  • A river swim.
  • Books in the library.
  • Art throughout the house.
  • Conversation around the table.
  • Quiet when you want it.
  • Fires in winter.
  • The river always there.

A day on the river

Days unfold slowly, without pressure or structure.

A gentle house rhythm rather than a timetable. Take part in as much or as little as feels right.

The river, first thing

  1. Dawn

Wake to soft light and fresh river air.

The house is quiet. A cold breakfast, tea and herbal infusions are ready; the river is doing what it does.

  2. Morning

    Start slowly.

Breath, movement, a river swim, or simply breakfast beside the river.

  3. Midday

    Movement in the garden studio.

Yoga, Pilates, a session with a practitioner, or nothing at all. Everything here is optional, always.

  4. Afternoon

The river deck, the library, a communal tea.

Quiet reading corners, the gardens, swans on the water. Time that feels spacious rather than scheduled.

  5. Evening

    Evenings by the fire.

Fires in winter, the river deck in summer, and a thoughtful range of drinks in the lounge.

  6. Night

    Wind down by the fire.

Then upstairs to beautiful beds and the sound of the river.
